To create and sustain a community which supports and understands people with mental illness. Our mission becomes "Mission accomplished!" when you join the Live Laugh Love Club.
The Live Laugh Love Club's purpose is to ensure that the Live Laugh Love Education Program continues to educate middle- and high-school students about mental health and mental illness. The program also helps students develop character traits that (1) directly decrease bullying, (2) increases tolerance and (3) indirectly promotes character development opportunities, such as "giving back" to schools and communities, raising academic expectations and achievement, and solving conflicts peacefully.
Currently, fewer than 10 percent of schools in the US offer a comprehensive mental health curriculum for students. At the same time, suicide continues to the be the nation's third leading cause of death and the second leading cause of death among high school students in Kent County. We've learned from young people in our program sessions that mental illness is one of their greatest concerns - sometimes for themselves and sometimes for a sibling, a parent or a friend. The more they know, the more eagerly they join in our community's efforts to increase understanding, stomp out stigma and ensure that individuals with mental illness receive much-needed care and assistance.
Thanks to your membership and support, the Live Laugh Love Education Program will be offered in city, suburban and rural school districts through Kent County.
