Stomp Out Stigma
Stomp Out Stigma - May 19, 2012
The annual Stomp Out Stigma – Walk for Mental Health is held in May in conjunction with National Mental Health Month. Planned collaboratively with and sponsored by local mental health service providers, the annual event strives to raise awareness that the stigma associated with mental illness is one of the greatest barriers that keeps people from seeking help.
We had over 1,100 walkers in 2011 and we continue to grow. Families put together teams in honor of someone they knew who has completed suicide; school groups put teams together for friends that didn't win their battle with mental illness; hospitals put teams together for their patients; businesses put teams together to honor a past employee, etc. What's your reason to put a team together?
Help us make 2012 even better!
Location:
Grand Valley State University - Downtown Pew Campus
Course:
The 3-mile walk begins at the beautiful downtown Pew Campus of Grand Valley State University and will travel along the Grand River’s downtown boardwalk. This unique walk celebrates abilities–rather than disabilities–of people who live with mental illness.
